KISS OF STRANGE

KISS OF STRANGE

1. Let me take you on home to Darkness.
Let take you on home, tonight.
Let me take you on home to Darkness.
Won't you ride by me side?

When you receive the Kiss of Strange
Where the pale flowers bloom,
You release the Winds of Change
Behind the hollow moon.

2. Let me take you on home to Darkness.
Let me take you back the way that you came.
Let me take you on home to Darkness.
Let me take you back where you can be safe.

On the barren desert
The Prince of the Dark Realm rides.
The window of the sky is broken
By the beating wings of night.

(Refrain:) Kiss of Strange in the sky.
Kiss of Strange in my eye.
Kiss of Strange, strange desire.
Kiss of Strange green fire.

3. Let me take you on home to Darkness.
Let me take you back where you belong.
Let me take you on home to Darkness.
The night wind cries, it won't be wrong.

Through the Dark Realm there is motion
Among the Creatures of the Deep.
A new soul is arriving,
A new lifetime to reap.

(Refrain:) Kiss of Strange in the sky.
Kiss of Strange in my eye.
Kiss of Strange, strange desire.
Kiss of Strange green fire.

Kiss of Strange.

(COMMENT: It was 1970. I was supposed to go to a jam session. I even let them borrow my drums. I never saw the drums again. I didn’t care. I knew I wasn’t going anywhere. I was going to stay home and finish writing this song. The images of the lyric. The mood of the chords. I knew that I was onto something that had perhaps never been felt before in music. In the first place anything having to do with “darkness” was strictly taboo in the music of the time. But what I was trying to evoke wasn’t evil, it was . . . something else. I didn’t know it at the time but it perfectly presaged the Heavy Metal music that would emerge several years later.)
